How do the structures of plants and animals help them solve problems?
V/CV and VC/V
This week we have a mixed list of words which have a consonant between two vowels. The first pattern V/CV (where the vowel falls at the end of the syllable), the vowel says its long sound. For example, the word "pilot" is broken into the syllables pi/lot. The "i" is at the end of the syllable and says its long sound. The "o" is not at the end, so it says its short sound.
When a vowel is NOT at the end of a syllable, it says its short sound. For the words with the second pattern VC/V the vowels are not at the end of the syllable, so they will say their short sound. For example the word "wagon". We break the word into the syllables wag/on. Neither vowel is at the end, so they both say their short sound.
