Changes in the environment cause various types of organisms to adapt.
Within this unit, we will be exploring -changes in the environment -ways that organisms adapt -various types of organisms
During the following 6 weeks, we will be working through the following activities:
Create representations of diverse habitats
Trip to the public library to research animals.
Animal adaptation relay race
Experiment with effectiveness of a variety of animal mouths.
Create insects which have adapted to our classroom environment
Discussion of needs of plants and animals
Food webs
The effect human beings have on the natural habitats of animals
Research into a particular plant or animal of each student's choice.
This unit will culminate with a presentation and art project to represent the plant and animal chosen.
Unpacking Our Central Idea
As a class, we split into small groups to discuss our understandings of the central idea. The idea was to "unpack" or rewrite the sentence in a way that kids could understand what we were studying. Each group shared their ideas on the board. We then combined their ideas to create one clear "kid friendly" version of the central idea.
