Math is an international language. Third graders will be challenged to begin thinking about problems from a variety of approaches and strategies for solving. The answer is only the beginning. It is more important that you are able to communicate the process by which you were able to find a reasonable answer to the problem at hand.
Please encourage your child to explain their thinking to you as they solve problems at home. This will help you understand the context in which they see the numbers. It is also a great challenge to ask your child if they can think of another way to solve the problem.
