This year we will be using a variety of literature to help us discover the world we live in. Third graders will be exposed to different genres and types of literature including folk tales, short stories, poetry, non-fiction resources, and novels. We will share reading experiences through journal writing, conversations with one another, and application of the lessons we learn.
Our reading curriculum will be based on Scott Foresman's Reading Street program (2011 edition). I will also ask students to share books from home that they have enjoyed. As a class we will read many contributions from children's authors from around the world. It is my hope that students will be able to learn from others' perspectives and experiences. We will be engaging in various writing styles to tell personal stories and to examine our thoughts and perspectives of the world.
